For the last couple of days, the Best of the Web at OpinionJournal.com has been running some quips on silly patents that have been issued by the Federal Government. I saw this one today, and had to share it with you:

On Sept. 25, 2001, Joe W. Armstrong of Lenoir, Tenn., was awarded U.S. Patent No. 6,293,874 for "as amusement apparatus including a user-operated and controlled apparatus for self-infliction of repetitive blows to the user's buttocks by a plurality of elongated arms bearing flexible extensions that rotate under the user's control. . . . As the user rotates the crank, the user's buttocks are paddled by flexible shoes located on each outboard end of the elongated arms to provide amusement to the user and viewers of the paddling.

YAHOO SHOULD "TOS" ANTI-SEMITES



After reading James Taranto's interesting "Best of the Web" item in OpinionJournal today about Microsoft Network "community" called "Death to Israel", I thought's I'd check in at Yahoo (my portal of preference), and discovered, to my horror, that Yahoo Groups hosts a group with the same name ("death_to_israel").



Yahoo's Terms of Service contains the following:

You agree to not use the Service to:



a. upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable

This group is clearly anti-Semitic and threatening. So why does Yahoo! allow the group to exist on their web service?
